OUR STORY
We came to the U.S. chasing big dreams and new beginnings. Chicago became our first home—beautiful, exciting, and honestly, freezing. Between work, homesickness, and learning to love the snow, what we missed most were the flavors that reminded us of who we are.
Like many immigrant journeys, ours started with hope, courage, and sacrifice. We left the Philippines in pursuit of opportunity, knowing it meant distance from the people, traditions, and flavors that shaped us. We missed family. We missed home cooking. And yes—the cold, windy winters made the longing feel even sharper.
Chicago introduced us to a world of global flavors, and for that we’re grateful. But no matter how wide our palate grew, we were always searching for something familiar—the taste of home. When a Filipino grocery store finally opened in a nearby suburb, the drive felt worth it. Seeing beloved classics on the shelves brought comfort, but the flavors often fell short—too salty, too sweet, too preserved.
That’s when it clicked.
If we couldn’t find the flavors we grew up with, we would make them ourselves—guided by a treasured family recipe, made with care, and rooted in tradition. What began in our kitchen became The Sun and Spoon.
We created this brand as a love letter to immigrants everywhere—those who carry home in their hearts, honor their heritage, and take pride in their culture, no matter the distance. Our hope is simple: to bring Filipino flavors to more tables and to turn everyday meals into something a little more special.
Handcrafted. Heirloom-inspired. Made to feel like home.
